October - November 2018 With the leaves changing colors, it was an excellent opportunity to discover and arrange colors into beautiful patterns, learn how to mix colors to create new and different colors and use our imaginations while doing all of these things. First, we created patterned "rugs" where we identified what patterns do ( repeat ) and cut fringes on the top and bottom to make beautifully colorful rugs. Later, we looked at a video about the color wheel, primary and secondary colors and reviewed this by blending oil pastels into the right "pie pieces" of a blank color wheel. This was followed up by mixing the primary colors (tempera paint) to create the new secondary colors by making our own imagined creatures. We also explored how our brushes can create different textures by making trees. The trunks were made by dragging the brush, the leaves were made by dropping the "belly" of the brush onto the paper and the grass was created by flicking our brush lightly away from us. The following projects like "Taking a Line for a Walk" and "Rainbow Fish" reviewed color, pattern and texture in fun ways and with deeper meaning like sharing and taking time to create quality work we can be proud of.
