December 2018-January 2019 With the holiday spirit in the air and clay in the art room, the last few months were hands-on and exploding with creativity like fireworks on New Year's Eve. The kiddos worked on making monsters that expressed emotions after reading "Glad Monster, Sad Monster". We continued developing our cutting skills when responding to the book, "Henri's Scissors" by creating organic, not geometric shapes like we had done when making "Geometric Robots". Both lessons focused on cutting and pasting skills. These young artists spent a good while at the sinks at the end of art class because we moved from gluey hands to clay fingers as we started a unit of lessons all about clay manipulation with our pinch pots and looked at relief sculpture with our clay faces. They were so focused and really enjoyed working on these projects. Also...we can have a little fun too.
