So, the kids took some time waiting for their clay pieces to dry and to glaze them, but during that time we had a lot of fun using our imaginations and being creative. We focused on perspective with our "Near & Far" project where Grover, from Sesame Street, taught us that objects that are near are bigger than objects that are far which are smaller. We brushed off our knowledge of the color wheel and learned something new, complimentary colors. With Andy Warhol and Pop Art as a reference, we created artwork that reflected Valentine's Day using hearts as our repeating "pop culture" image. We went back in time and learned about cave drawings and native maps and learned of the importance of symbols throughout art history. We learned about ourselves as the center of our universe with our Mandala project, and wrote poems about who we are with our "I AM" poems. And not to be outdone, the Art Show was a smashing success. I couldn't be more proud of how all these young, budding artists have grown over this year.
